Prague Football College helped me see football not just as a game, but as a profession

Jaroslav Peřina, BBA, is a clear example of how combining professional playing experience with quality education shapes a new generation of coaches. In this interview, he shares what truly influenced his development and helped him take the next step in his career.

Jarik

— Why did you choose Prague Football College?
— I chose Prague Football College because it is one of the few institutions that allow students to combine academic studies with playing football at a professional level. This opportunity was decisive for me. I was also attracted by the modern and comprehensive approach to education, the connection between theory and practice, and the school’s high-quality facilities.

— What was the most valuable part of your studies – theory, practice, or new contacts?
— The greatest value came from the combination of all three. Theory gave me a solid foundation, practice allowed me to apply new knowledge immediately, and new contacts opened additional opportunities for growth within the football environment.

— Which module or lecturer had the biggest impact on your career?
— Tomas Kulvajt and Mr. Barák had the most significant influence on me. I highly appreciate their professional experience, human approach, and ability to convey knowledge clearly and in direct connection with practical work. Their view of football, player management, and overall philosophy strongly shaped my future professional direction.

— What during your studies exceeded your expectations?
— I was most impressed by the high level of teaching and the open atmosphere. I greatly valued the personal approach of the lecturers, their willingness to share experience, and their readiness to discuss real-life situations from practice.

— How did your studies change your view of football?
— The program helped me see football much more holistically. I began to pay more attention to details, planning, long-term player and team development, and the importance of the entire process—not just the final result.

— What was the moment you realized you had chosen the right path?
— It was the moment when I successfully applied my new knowledge in practice and saw a positive response from the players and the team. That was when I knew I was on the right track.

— What was the most difficult part of your studies, and how did it help you grow?
— The most challenging part was balancing my studies with a professional football career and other responsibilities. But this very challenge helped me improve time management, discipline, and systematic work.

— How did the knowledge you gained help you in practice?
— The knowledge I acquired helped me structure the training process more effectively, improve my work with players, and feel more confident in my decisions.

— Would you recommend this program to beginners or experienced professionals?
— I would recommend it to both beginners and experienced coaches. It offers a new perspective, inspiration, and opportunities for further growth.

— What motivates you most today to continue your football career?
— I am motivated by the opportunity to use the experience I gained as a professional player and pass it on in the role of a coach at a professional level. I have seen football from both sides, and the combination of playing experience and coaching work gives me the most meaning and the desire to grow further.

Final Acknowledgment

In closing, I would like to thank Mr. Josef Dobeš, who has supported the Prague Football College project for many years. I truly appreciate his work, vision, and commitment, thanks to which the school provides systematic, high-quality education for professional-level coaches, along with the opportunity to earn a BBA degree. This is what gives the program its high value and real impact.

After successfully completing my studies, I was also able to enter the highest level of coaching education under FAČR — the Fitness A, UEFA license — and successfully complete it. This became another important step in my professional coaching career.
